Meet Megan V. - Recipient of Patellofemoral Replacement

"Four years ago I couldn't do anything without thinking about it, I couldn't go down stairs, I couldn't get in my car, I couldn't bend over to get in my boat... Now I might go for a run a few days a week, I row on the river six to eight miles four days a week. I'm out on my mountain bike, downhill ski, water ski... So there definitely haven't been too many limitations, it's definitely helped me to do some of the things that I wouldn't be able to do right now."

Meet Suzanne C. - Recipient of Minimally Invasive Total Knee Replacement

"I can do everything. I feel twenty years younger. There's nothing I can't do that I want to do."

Meet Doug V. - Recipient of Unicompartmental Knee Replacement

"By the time the rehab was completed I was a completely different person— I was a hundred percent back to normal again."

Meet John H., Age 36 - Recipient of Patellofemoral Arthroplasty
Cordova, Alaska

"At 7 months after surgery I was celebrating by snowshoeing above town and snowboarding. I hope this picture of the view might express a thousand words of appreciation for regaining some of my capacities!

"I am doing very well. Thank you Dr. Lonner and Team!!!"

Minimally Invasive Total Knee Replacement Surgery Philadelphia

Dr. Lonner,
A few years ago I came to you because I had so much pain in my left knee, due to my rheumatoid arthritis. You told me that because of the RA there was a lot of damage to the knee, and the best thing to do was to have a knee replacement. You were able to do a minimally invasive surgery. The surgery was a complete success! My knee is pain free. Because of you and your dedication to helping people I was able to walk in the Arthritis Walk this year. That was something I didn't know if I would ever be able to do. I am able to be much more active. I wanted to say THANK YOU!!
Thanks,
Linda P

"It has been almost two years since my knee replacement. It has worked out quite well. I was back on the trail 120 days after the operation. This past summer I completed the John Muir Trail in California."

Meet Leon R., Age 68 - Recipient of Bilateral Patellofemoral Arthroplasties
Elkins Park, Pennsylvania

"These pictures were taken one day after my 13th week after my surgery which was on October 22, 2007. To me it is pretty amazing that I was able to run at this time without any hint of pain. I am convinced that the way the procedure was performed along with real diligence in rehab have put me way ahead of the curve at this time in my recovery. Though I am very careful and consciously aware of what I do on the tennis court, I am able to move around at about 85 to 90%."

Leon R. - Bilateral Patellofemoral Arthroplasties
Resumed playing tennis 6 weeks after surgery.

Meet Diana B., Age 62 - Recipient of Minimally Invasive Total Knee Replacement
North Wales, Pennsylvania

"As you can see, we climbed steep steps through the dense vegetation on our 2 mile hike around the volcanic springs. Dr. B and I (the only blonde in the group) are surrounded by the Philippine doctors who were our chaperones for the day. Only four months after total knee replacement, I was able to keep up with our group with no problems and no pain. Thank you so much for giving me my life back with your surgical skills!"

Meet Anne N., Age 75 - Recipient of Robotically Assisted Unicompartmental Knee Resurfacing

"Dear Dr. Lonner,

"On my first trip out alone with the cane (2 weeks after surgery), I made my first important purchase - a 'thank you' card! I was totally impressed by your expertise, your ability and your thoughtfulness. Doing really great, all thanks to you and your wonderfully capable Orthopedic Dept. God bless!!

"Thank you."

Meet Keith Hodkinson., Morning Radio Host,"Keith and Beth and the Mix 96.7 Morning Crew", Age 52 - Recipient of Bilateral Patellofemoral Arthroplasties
Tiffin, Ohio.

Keith Hodkinson"Where do I begin? One year ago, I was in constant pain when going up or down stairs. I couldn't run... at all. I joked with friends that if our house ever caught fire, I wouldn't be able to get out fast enough because of my knees.

"My doctor had discovered that both of my kneecaps were moving to the outside causing a 'bone on bone' situation. I had extreme arthritis behind my kneecaps but my knees were actually in great shape. I went through a series of Cortisone and Synvisc injections. They worked for a time but soon lost their effect. My doctor did some research and found Dr. Lonner in Philadelphia. He sent him my x-rays. Dr. Lonner reviewed and agreed that I was a candidate for his specialized procedure. Surgery was set for Wednesday, April 9, 2008.

"My wife and I traveled to Philadelphia from Ohio on Sunday, April 6, 2008. We ran a series of tests on Monday and met Dr. Lonner on Tuesday for a final 'go' for surgery.

"Surgery went as scheduled around 10am. When I awoke, both my knees were on machines to keep them moving.

"I can honestly say that the pain was not nearly as bad as I thought. By Wednesday evening I stood up. Thursday (the day after surgery) I walked down the hall.

"We made the long trek home on Sunday stopping every hour to stretch. That was tough.

"My rehab began at home and continued at our local hospital three times a week for about six weeks.

"Now, fast forward.

"Since my surgery, I can run with absolutely no pain. Climbing the stairs is easy... My knees feel solid again, something I had not felt in years.

"I took up cycling and made a goal for myself that I would ride my bike from Findlay to Tiffin, Ohio, two towns separated by 30 miles of country roads. On July 30, I accomplished my goal!! In September I road a 30 mile hill course, the single most exhaustive thing I had ever done in my life. But I did it.

"I look forward to more riding this spring and summer.

"I can’t thank Dr. Lonner and Beverly, his assistant enough. They were thoroughly professional in all aspects.

"I have recommended Dr. Lonner to others and spoken about him numerous times on our morning show. I highly recommend Dr. Lonner if your situation warrants his evaluation."

Meet Jeane M., Age 53 - Recipient of Bilateral Patellofemoral Arthroplasties
Londonberry, New Hampshire

"Dear Dr. Lonner, Beverly and everyone,

"So often I think of you and the wonderful care I received when I was there for my bi-lateral patellofemoral replacements. From the very beginning, with pre-planning w/Beverly, and organizing tests & travel, to farewell wheelchair ride from Barbara, everyone was wonderful, caring, compassionate, and made it all go so smoothly.

"Dr. Lonner, your skill and professional, personable demeanor was the best! You all made me feel so comfortable & confident, and so at home even though I was far from it. Thank you so much for the best treatment from start to finish. I am doing well – I can run now and even shovel snow. Squatting is still in the works, and swelling is minimal.

"Again, thank you so much for playing such an important role in my life – and for all your care, kindness, attention to detail.

"God Bless You!"

Meet Mary H., Age 53 - Recipient of Patellofemoral Arthroplasty
West Des Moines, Iowa

"Hi Dr. Lonner,

"You performed my PFA 2 years, 2 months and 2 days ago. Yesterday my daughter and I walked a half marathon in 3 hours and 11 minutes. I am delighted with the outcome! Two years ago I could not even begin to dream about walking 13.1 miles and yesterday was a great milestone for me.

"Thanks again for your great work on my knee and making this possible."

Meet Caren C., Age 63 - Recipient of Bilateral Patellofemoral Arthroplasties
San Miguel, Mexico

Caren Total Knee Replacement Philadelphia

6 months after bilateral patellofemoral replacements:

"I kept putting off having a double patellofemoral replacement, telling myself that it wasn't so bad! I just got used to wincing at the prospect of walking up or down a curbside, let alone a flight of stairs. My active life is back now. I am walking all over town without pain. (I live in a small town in Mexico and one of the reasons for moving here was to avoid having to drive everywhere!) I am back to going up and down stairs like I used to. I am dancing, doing zumba, hiking. I feel like my old self. It is wonderful! I have my life back!!! Dr. Lonner is the best. I can't overemphasize his kindness, concern, expertise. This surgery is not done in Mexico so I googled the procedure and then looked for who teaches the procedure to orthopedic surgeons. I figured, why not go to the expert?"

Meet Kathy S., Age 47 - Recipient of Patellofemoral Arthroplasty
Cherry Hill, New Jersey

"I sincerely appreciate your expertise in the area of patellofemoral replacements and that "you picked me!" If ever there is a moment when you wonder why you do what you do, please remember there is a woman in Cherry Hill, New jersey who is extremely grateful for you and for what you do!! Many times, patients have to weigh surgical excellence with good bedside manner. In my experience, you possess both along with the patience for long lists of questions. Thank you very much. I am extremely pleased with the results. "

Meet Patty O., Age 64 - Recipient of Bilateral Patellofemoral Arthroplasties
Virginia

"First it seems apparent that so far the results in my case are proceeding at warp speed and well. I am indeed so grateful. All your colleagues seem envious of your "signature" stitches. The purpose of this note really is to highlight the superb support and attentiveness of Patrick and Bev. They treated me like I was their only patient but it never showed. They were patient, helpful and always exceedingly polite. I will succeed, no doubt, due in large part to your brilliant surgery."

Meet Margaret and Francis K., Age 63 - Recipient of Total Joint Replacement

" Thank goodness for the holidays and the one called Thanksgiving. One day a year hardly seems like enough time to count all of the things we have to be grateful for but it is a good start. Family and friends are probably at the top of almost everyone's list. Health, wealth, warm clothes and plenty of good food rank up there as well. Also at the top of our list is the name of Dr. Jess Lonner.

"Thank you Dr. Lonner for all your help and for using your vast store of knowledge to help my husband and many, many more people during your years as a doctor touching countless lives in ways you may never have imagined."

Meet Greg P., Age 48 - Recipient of Bilateral Patellofemoral Arthroplasties

"Thanks for renewing my knees and enlarging my life."

Meet Leo B., Age 83 - Recipient of Bilateral Minimally Invasive Total Knee Replacements
Linville, North Carolina

"Friday last marked the 16th week since you've left your signature on my knees and it's only fittin' and proper that I apprise you of 'howgozit.'

"To celebrate the 16th week of recovery, I played 9 holes of golf and am happy to report that I carded a 43. That's a bit better than I usually do, but more importantly, it felt great to be out and about with virtually no awareness that my knees have been messed with or enduring any previous pain. I'm mighty beholden to you for your outstanding medical skills, patience, bedside manner and intestinal fortitude.

"Additionally, a day doesn't go by that I don't go through the gaggle of exercises as well as walk a mile and push a stationery bike for 20 minutes with ever increasing pedal resistance. In my efforts to live forever, I want the quality of life to be top drawer. Meanwhile, keep your skills honed so we can replace these new knees when they wear out some 15 years down the pike. I'm obviously a chronic optimist. Jess, I thank you again for making my knee surgery an easy to deal with experience. You exude confidence inspiring aura from the word go. Nice to deal with laid-back guy and know you're in very capable hands. I'm appreciative and grateful."

Meet Norma S., Age 76 - Recipient of Minimally Invasive Total Knee Replacement

"I just wanted to let you know that my recovery from knee replacement surgery, which you performed, has gone as smoothly as anyone could imagine, with almost no PAIN!! In fact, the staff at the rehab, when I was admitted asked what my pain level was, and could hardly believe me when I said ZERO! Thank you very, very, much for all your skill and care."

Meet Sandra G., Age 60 - Recipient of Bilateral Minimally Invasive Total Knee Replacements

"Just a few words to express my sincere gratitude for your expert professional work on my new knees. You are the 'best' and I will never ever forget the new lease on life you gave me. Thank you! Thank you! Again you are the 'Best.'"

Meet Kemp L., Age 60 - Recipient of Robotic-Arm Assisted Unicompartmental Replacement
Devon, Pennsylvania

"I have a history of being extremely active. I believe long distance running, racquetball and contact sports did me in. I had a total left knee replacement (by another surgeon who used a conventional approach) in my mid 50's and a partial (Mako) surgical replacement of my right knee at 60 by Dr. Lonner. My total knee replacement for me was close to devastating. My recovery was lengthy, painful and plagued by complications and depression with mediocre results. I read about the Mako Partial in Forbes magazine in 2007 when I was beginning to have problems with my right knee. So, I did my homework - checking out thoroughly the procedure. After visiting Dr. Lonner - he said I was an "ideal candidate" because the interior part of my knee showed the only damage. By April of this year (2008) my right knee would not allow me to go up steps. I was in constant pain but was prepared to suffer forever rather than having another "total ". However, I needed to do something. I was thoroughly impressed with Dr. Lonner and the possibility of having a Mako Partial knee replacement. I scheduled the procedure for mid May. I was prepared to spend several days in the hospital - I was there only overnight. I was prepared to be in constant pain afterwards - I was not. I was prepared to miss three weeks of work - I missed four days. I was prepared to go to weeks of out patient physical therapy - I did not. In less than three weeks I was riding a bike, swimming and going up stairs - pain free. My biggest regret is that this procedure was not available when I had my left knee replaced. "

Meet Laura F., Age 72 - Recipient of Bilateral Minimally Invasive Total Knee Replacements
Camp May, New Jersey

"How blessed I am with a great surgeon! And how grateful I am or your expertise, wonderful hands and my new knees. Thank you for your talent, professionalism, caring and attention. I am delighted with the surgery; my right leg is wonderful, the left one improving steadily. How exciting to walk and do stairs again. This is a big thank you from my heart and a little sweetness from Cape May."

Meet Milt M., Age 70 - Recipient of Bilateral Patellofemoral Replacements
Pottstown, PA

I came home from the hospital three days after surgery. My range of motion the next day was found to be 0 to 115 degrees. After two days at home I no longer used anything to provide support when walking in the house. I stopped all pain medication in less than two weeks and was driving early in my third week of recovery.

At 5 weeks my range of motion was 0 to 135 degrees. At six weeks I took my first bike ride for 10 miles on level terrain. And at the end of my eighth week I rode for 10 miles of mild to moderate hills. I am also able to walk up and down a flight of stairs with no difficulty.

Yesterday I amazed myself by biking 25 miles in hilly Chester County. I did not start the ride with any mileage goal in mind. It just happened, as I felt fine and kept going further. Frankly, I found it incredible that I could do 25 miles, 2 days short of 9 weeks post-op.

When this is written I am extremely pleased with my very rapid recovery and am looking forward to much longer bike rides and to downhill skiing this winter. Doctor Lonner is an extremely talented surgeon who is also very patient oriented. Beverly has also been very helpful. Thanks for restoring me to an active life again!

My hat is off to Dr. Lonner!

Meet Zola A. Makrauer, DMD, FAGD., Age 51 - Recipient of Makoplasty Unicompartmental Resurfacing (4 months after surgery)
Huntingdon Valley, PA

Dear Jess,Zola A. Makrauer

I wanted to write a note to you to express my gratitude for giving me my life back. Susan and I just returned from Italy. We had the time of our lives, lots of food, wine, and of course walking. I never would have made the trip with my knee prior to the surgery. Last Sunday I played tennis. I was on the court for about one and one half hours and I had no pain or swelling!

Skiing is my passion and I am looking forward to next season. I am already watching airfares to Salt Lake. It has been two years since I was last on the slopes.

MAKOplasty is a procedure that I would recommend to anyone that has a similar problem. I always get into discussions with my patients about knees. Many of my patients know that I have had knee problems and they always want an update at their appointments. I always recommend you and your team.

Thanks again for your expertise, and I will see you in February.

Meet Milt M. - Recipient of Knee Replacement Surgery

Beverly,Milt M. Total Knee Replacement Philadelphia

At long last here are pictures of me and my bike, which Dr. Lonner requested.

Things are still going very well. I am doing quite a bit of biking and am planning to do either 60 or 100 level miles on Oct. 10 in Salisbury, MD.

Best regards to you and Dr. Lonner.

Milt
